We do get FAT!
by prags19
Women who have always been skinny and not just slim do go through a change and this change is called FAT!
I always see fitness experts and gurus saying – honey you couldn’t have gained all this weight in a 3 months right, how do you expect it to lose it quickly. You need to be patient.
While there is a lot of logic in the statement made above, but the truth of the matter is when I got married I weighed 57 kgs and 6 months later I was at a whoping 63 kgs. Now for my height and my structure my weight still was considered in the normal range. But wait… what just happened?
There was no change in my diet, there was no change in my physical activity but there was a huge change in me. A change worth 6 kgs!
And trust me people are not sensitive to this change at all –
“Oh my god! What happened to you? “
“Are you already expecting?”
“I remember you used to be thin.”
“Hey I almost didn’t recognize you.”
And then one day your beloved gets you a gift – it’s a weighing machine. Now is the time when you try to hold back your tears but then you stand on the scale. Once you look down at the reading, the tears come tumbling down. And when it rains, it pours (literally).
While I make it sound funny right now, crack jokes about it, trust me one goes through a very bad phase at that point in time. I know a lot of us rather than going into a state of depression muster up the courage and head to a gym. But the problem is we expect results a bit too soon! Nothing happens… so then you pick up motivational books from flipkart. I remember reading Rujuta’s – Don’t lose your mind. Lose your weight. By the way, I won’t say that she changed my life, but she definitely pointed my diet towards a healthy direction – so thank you Rujuta!
The whole point is – either you accept it or you get depressed. Women about to hit 30 usually go through this change. Some are lucky enough to not go through it and some are not. Some work really hard at the gym and then some just don’t. But the kind of body image that we are encouraging is way wrong and totally unacceptable.
Most of the women I know who work out and eat less, the motivating factor for them are weight loss. However, when I see men around me, they are more concerned about their health and well being.
Isn’t our focus on this all wrong ladies? We avoid food that we really need to consume. After having my baby, I casually discussed my diet with a nutritionist and she was shocked. She told me that there was barely any protein in my diet which was extremely important based on what my body had just been through. Women have a complex structure and our metabolism slows down drastically once we hit the golden olden 30 mark! Not eating and exercising wrong causes more trouble than one can imagine. This is my first hand experience. I feel weak and sluggish even now. I know I have a long way to go…
Where I and many others like me know these for facts, we have peer pressure, the media and ruthless people who call themselves our friends around us. I mean when Aishwarya Rai wasn’t spared from the fatattack then who are we kidding? We live in a society where slim and fair are pre requisites to looking good. Gone are the days when curvy was sexy. We can fool ourselves saying that “curvy” is coming back! But that’s just the liberation talking.
Enough said – This article cannot end this easily so we will take this forward in chapters and discuss what I am doing to change my life towards a healthier direction. It’s been close to 2 months and I do see a visible difference.
